DESERT FESTIVAL JAISALMER

Introduction

Get set to catch the extravaganza which Delhi offers to its visitors. The good old charm of Old Delhi and its magnificent history will make you fall in love with the city. Move on with Desert Safari tour which is a must for anyone visiting Rajasthan. It will be a mesmerizing long lasting memory which you and your family members shall never forget. The Desert festival of Jaisalmer is a colourful festival held in February each year. You may get to visualize Cultural events, camel races, turban fastening competitions etc. Not exciting enough! Attend the contests to evaluate the person with the best moustache. Everything is exotic within the Desert festival, amidst the golden sands of the Thar Desert. With a final musical performance by folk singers under the moonlit sky at the dunes in sam, just outside Jaisalmer, the festival involves its end. The rich culture of the region is on show throughout this three daylong entertainment. And move on to Jodhpur and Udaipur with exciting jeep safaris or camel drives. Spend good time in a land so barren yet so subtle. The splendid and old havelis with intricate carvings particularly Mehrangarh Fort and City Palace are worth visiting. Move on to Agra and get immersed in the beauty of Taj Mahal- the symbol of eternal love.

DAY 01: ARRIVE DELHI

On your arrival at Delhi International airport, you shall be met by our officials who will transfer you to the hotel.

DAY 02: IN DELHI

Have breakfast in the hotel. Follow it up with full day sightseeing tour of both Delhi via metro or auto-rickshaw. Have a glimpse of the splendid architecture of Old Delhi built by late emperor Shah Jahan.. Visit the biggest mosque of India- Jama Masjid, which was Shah Jahan’s place to experience serenity and offer prayers to the Almighty. It took almost six years to complete building the mosque which features three gateways and two towering minarets standing tall at 40m. You shall be taken aback with the fact that around 25,000 worshippers can offer prayers at the same time in this majestic mosque. Not only this, one can even have a panoramic view of the colonial Delhi from the top of southern minaret. The visitors shall be then moved to seeing monuments in New Delhi like Humayun’s Tomb, Lotus Temple and Qutub Minar. After the tour, the travelers shall be allowed to stay back in Old Delhi for some time and later meet with rest of the group and back to Hotel.

DAY 03: DELHI- JODHPUR

Have breakfast in the hotel. Set out of the hotel and board the flight to Udaipur. On arrival in Udaipur, you shall be transferred to the hotel. Spend leisure time during the afternoon.

DAY 04: IN JODHPUR

Have breakfast in the hotel. Follow it up with full day sightseeing. Start with exploring the majestic Mehrangarh fort which lies on a steep hill and is one of the largest forts of India. Made with hard sandstones, the fort displays the works of skilled Jodhpuri sculptures. Since the fort is situated on the hill, it presents a spectacular view of the city’s horizon. The richly adorned windows and walls of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal and Sheesh Mahal in the fort will take you to an all new world. You will also enjoy seeing the well preserved collection of musical instruments, palanquins, royal costumes, furniture etc. Move towards Jaswant Thada which lies close to the fort complex and is made of white marble. It is the 19th century royal cenotaph which was built by Maharaja Jaswant Singh II and displays the rare portraits of Maharajas of Jodhpur. If it is shopping on your mind, then Sardar market is the best place to cherish. Stay back in the market for some time. Then return to the hotel.

DAY 05: JODHPUR-JAISALMER

Have breakfast in the hotel. Depart for Jaisalmer by road. Cover a distance of 290 kms in 5 hours. Arrive in Jaisalmer. Check into the hotel.

DAY 06: IN JAISALMER

Follow it up with full day sightseeing tour to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan’s Golden City of the Desert festival is a three-day of celebration of Rajasthan’s made arts and crafts, designed particularly for the tourists. Besides, the spirited popular music and dances, colourful bazaars and curio stalls what makes this event pleasant is that the venue itself, that is the golden Sam’s sand dunes close to Jaisalmer.

DAY 07: IN JAISALMER

Follow it up with full day sightseeing tour to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan’s Golden City. The place is quite renowned for its artistic marvels amidst the hot deserts. Be it intricate carvings on walls or beautifully made jharokhas and balconies of splendid palaces, everything here is worth watching out. The Jaisalmer fort also popularly known as Sonar Quila merges with the golden hues of the desert areas thereby giving a fairy tale look. It is a kind of architectural beauty that can’t be seen anywhere else in the world. Moving on with the tour, you can have a glimpse of Patwon ji ki Haveli which stands tall with five storeys, and is the largest haveli situated in a narrow lane. The extensively carved pillars, corridors and chambers with beautiful mural work give the haveli an alluring look. Jaisalmer is particularly a desert city which invokes a picture in the minds of the travelers about a camel moving around in desert areas. Of course, you will enjoy camel safaris during sightseeing. In fact, Sam Sand dunes which are sandy bush less deserts are perfect to watch out sunrise and sunset and are a must visit during the tour. Return to the hotel.

DAY 08: JAISALMER- BIKANER

Have breakfast in the hotel. Depart for Bikaner by road, covering a distance of 330 km in 6 hours. Arrive in Bikaner. Check into the hotel.

DAY 09: BIKANER- MANDAWA

Breakfast in the hotel. Follow it up with sightseeing tour of Bikaner city. Visit the unassailable fortress- Junagarh fort, which was never been conquered by anyone. It was built by Raja Rai Singh in 1593 A.D who was the distinguished general in the army of Emperor Akhbar. The main entrances of the fort that are Karan Pol and Suraj Pol are distinguished works of architecture. Some of the magnificent palaces that lie in the fort itself like Anup Mahal, Rang Mahal and Ganga Niwas made of red sandstone and marble, are quite well known for their picturesque and intricate artwork. The tourists shall then be taken to Lalgarh Palace, built by Maharaja Ganga Singh in memory of his father in the year 1902. It is an architectural masterpiece made in red sandstone and is a fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European architecture. Go on visiting Ganga Singh museum which showcases some of the finest works of prehistoric Harrapan culture and Gupta period which include paintings, arts and crafts, terracota, pottery and coins and carpets as well. Lastly, you shall be spending the day in Camel Research farm and witness how the ‘ship of the desert’ is decorated and sold at cattle fairs. Later depart for Mandawa by road covering a distance of 190 kms in 3 ½ hours. Arrive in Mandawa. Check into hotel.

DAY 10: MANDAWA- JAIPUR

Have breakfast in hotel followed by a short sightseeing tour to Mandawa Castle which lies in the Shekhawati region. There are other famous havelis like Gulab Rai Ladia Haweli known for exceptional murals and Bansidhar Nevatia Haveli which shows real evidence of Wright Brothers’ maiden flight, will be visited during the tour. Later, depart for Jaipur by road covering a distance of 170 kms in 3 hours. On arrival to Jaipur, you shall be transferred to the hotel.

DAY 11: IN JAIPUR

Have breakfast in the hotel. You will then be taken on a tour to Jaipur- the city of royal palaces. The city is quietly known to be the first planned city as one can witness wide streets and beautiful gardens all around which is otherwise not found in other urban cities. The people here are warm and hospitable and welcome visitors like their own family members. The Amber fort, known for its enthralling fortress will be visited during sightseeing. Made with white marble and red sandstone, it is quite a beautiful creation that will stun everyone. When there is mention of Amber fort, no one can forget the mention of Sheesh Mahal which witnesses awe-inspiring mirrored halls. Also on tour list is the Hawa Mahal which is known to be the Palace of Winds. Built with red and pink sandstone, the palace dons a total of 5 storeys and around 935 windows. The main reason behind its construction was to allow women to gaze out at the city without themselves being seen. Since there were a lot of openings, it helped the rulers staying in the palace to get a cool breeze during hot weather. After sightseeing, you shall be treated with traditional Rajasthani lunch and then transfer you to the hotel.

DAY 12: JAIPUR –AGRA

Have breakfast in the hotel. Departure to Agra by road via visiting beautiful Fatehpur Sikri. A total of 250 km and a span of 5 hours shall take you to Agra. Fatehpur Sikri which took around fifteen years to be constructed during the rule of Akbar possess a series of royal palaces, courts, mosque and private quarters that can make any traveler fall in love with the place. It is the Fatehpur Sikri which is the quite popularly known for speaking volumes about the legends of Akbar and his courtiers i.e. the nine jewels including Birbal. It is also known to be one of the best and most preserved collections of Mughal Architecture in India. You shall be continuing the drive to Jaipur. On arrival, you shall be transferred to the hotel in Agra.

DAY 13- AGRA- DELHI

Have breakfast in the hotel. Follow it up with a visit to Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife- Mumtaz. It is a symbol of eternal love. You shall cherish the moment spent here throughout your lifetime. Later depart for Delhi by road covering a distance of 220 km in 4 hours. On arrival to Delhi, check into the hotel.

DAY 14- DEPART DELHI

Have breakfast in the hotel. Spend the rest of the day in leisure. Later on you shall be transferred to the International Airport to board the flight back to home.
