Moving on, you can experience the warmth of royal luxury as you walk along the corridors of Fateh Prakash Palace which display large paintings of the Mewar school. Day 05: In Udaipur

After breakfast we will head out for a full day excursion to Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur, two major sights in southern Rajasthan. We begin our journey starting with a scenic drive from Udaipur to Kumbhalgarh, through the Aravalli Mountains. Kumbhalgarh is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan and used to be the place of retreat for the rulers of Mewar. Situated on one of the highest peaks of the Aravallis, its walls have been breached only once in history. On reaching Kumbhalgarh you can climb up to the palace of the clouds and take in the views of the Aravalli Mountains and the plains of Marwar. After visiting the fort we drive down into the Ranakpur valley. This spectacular drive takes us through mountains dotted with small villages and the characteristic Persian water wheels. We arrive in Ranakpur sometime in the early afternoon and have lunch in a small hotel in Ranakpur. After lunch you can visit the Ranakpur Jain temple, a truly impressive and beautiful Indian temple. Built in the 14th century, the temple is built of white marble and its roof rests on 1444 marble pillars, each intricately decorated with a different design. We return to Udaipur in the late afternoon.

This land is home to a great array of wildlife including some of the last surviving leopards of the area. If we’re lucky we may be able to spot Sambar deer, Nilgai antelopes, monkeys, gazelles, mongoose and many smaller animals and birds. This wildlife sanctuary is quite secluded and few visitors find their way here. In the late afternoon we return to Boheda where we will spend the night.
